Quest Diagnostics Inc. this week named a chief information and digital officer, combining two enterprise technology roles, as digital tools continue to expand beyond providing back-room business support and into strategic data management and analytics. Gabrielle Wolfson, a former Xerox Corp. chief information officer, took on the dual role earlier this month at the medical diagnostic-information provider known for blood work, urinalysis and other laboratory tests, a company spokesperson said.

Quest Diagnostics has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of the clinical laboratory services business of Boyce and Bynum Pathology Laboratories; BBPL’s anatomic pathology division, long-term care division, and Boyce and Bynum Pathology Professional Services are not part of the transaction. Through a separate professional services agreement, BBPPS will become the exclusive pathology provider for Quest clients in Missouri and a preferred pathology provider in the greater Midwestern region. The professional services agreement will go into effect at the time the acquisition is completed, which is expected in the first quarter of 2019.

Quest Diagnostics named Gabrielle Wolfson, a veteran IT business leader, as the company's new senior vice president and chief information and digital officer.

Quest Diagnostics saw fourth-quarter 2018 revenues of $1.84 billion and net income of $127 million. The company should grow by 2% this year, driven by acquisitions, said CEO Steve Rusckowski.

Quest Diagnostics today reported a 1 percent year-over-year drop in revenues for the fourth quarter, missing the consensus analyst expectation. Revenue for the three months ended Dec. 31, 2018 was $1.84 billion, down from $1.87 billion in the same quarter last year. The consensus Wall Street estimate was $1.88 billion.
